What are White Horses?

"This book isn't about white horses.  The wait for white horses here only represents some sort of deeper acceptance of the chaos, and beauty, of life.

I spend as many summer days as possible in a little cabin by a lake in Northern Minnesota. Occasionally, when conditions are just right, I can start my day watching the white horses run. It requires a cool evening, so the warm vapors from the lake will condense into a heavy fog when they rise up to meet the cold morning air.  When the small clouds of fog tumble off the lake, driven by a summer breeze...the white horses are running.  It doesn't happen every day, and it only happens at sunrise, as the sun warms the air.  But when a day begins with the white horses, it always seems that something special, something good, is happening."
